I’m Pip Marthaller and I am a professional proofreader of non-fiction texts. I not only look at spelling and grammar errors, but also check for consistency, correct formatting and appropriate and consistent style in punctuation and spelling. This means that your writing can be at its best so that it can successfully communicate your message without distractions and you can effectively achieve your goals.

What type of non-fiction texts do you work on?
I am happy to proofread most types of non-fiction texts. This includes business documents, academic submissions and blogs.
What training have you completed?
I have completed all the core skills proofreading courses run by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. As well as that, I completed an MA(Hons) in Applied Linguistics through the University of Birmingham in 2017 and a certificate and diploma in English Language Teaching (ELT), the CELTA in 2007 and DELTA in 2010.
Can you improve my essay for my university course?
Before training as a proofreader, I was an academic skills tutor. This meant I taught, amongst other things, academic writing skills. Part of that was ensuring students understood about academic integrity and following university submission rules. I take these rules very seriously.
As a proofreader, this puts limitations on what I can suggest changing. This means I cannot comment on any arguments you make, the accuracy of your comments and conclusions or any faults with your argumentation. However, what I can do is ensure that what you have written is expressed correctly and that everything is displayed as it should be.
What are your rates?
I charge by the hour. Once I have seen a sample of the work, I can calculate how long it will take me and I will create my quote from that.
